About ROAM

Since 2005, we’ve been known as pioneers in the mobile point of sale (mPOS) space, having produced and distributed the industry’s first secure mobile card reader. Since then, we have continued to innovate, evolve and expand the breadth of our mobile commerce offerings.

Today, we provide a full suite of mobile POS products, solutions, tools and services to many of the leading retailers and merchant-facing organizations worldwide. 2005

  • ROAM was founded 

2005 - 2007

  • ROAM built its core team of payment industry innovators and mobile development experts
  • ROAM established its headquarters in the Fort Point Channel District in Boston, Massachusetts
  • ROAM conceptualized, developed, tested and launched its mobile commerce platform

2008

  •  Traveling Vineyard selected ROAM to provide mobile services
  • ROAM established partnership with Sprint
  • Joined Sprint’s Professional Developer Program
  • Curriculum Associates selected ROAM’s mobile application

2009

  • Direct Selling Women’s Alliance announced an alliance with ROAM
  • ROAM acquired Kincaid Technologies, one of the leading independent payment gateways
  • ROAMpay mobile application became available in the App Store
  • ROAM supplied DSWA Members and Member Companies the industry's first low cost mobile enabled merchant accounts and paycard solution
  • Thatcher Technology and ROAM partnered to deliver the Direct Sales industry’s first integrated sales performance management software
  • Ingenico made $6.5 million initial investment in ROAM

2010

  • Merchant Solutions IQ began offering the ROAMpay mobile app to its customers
  • ROAM launched the first encrypted reader enabling merchants to process card-present swipe transactions on a variety of mobile phones
  • ROAM won ETA Technology Innovation Award
  • iPayment, Inc. began providing customers access to mobile payment processing with the ROAMpay product suite
  • ROAM successfully launched its first iPhone 4 card reader
  • Merchant Data Systems began offering the ROAMpay mobile app to its customers
  • IRN Payments Systems began offering ROAM’s mobile payment solution to its merchants
  • Sage Payment Solutions and ROAM partnered to develop integrated mobile commerce capabilities for SMBs
  • ROAM launched world’s first secure low cost card reader for BlackBerry

2011

  • ROAM began adhering to Visa’s mobile payment security best practices
  • ROAM introduced cloud-based mobile wallet and checkout API
  • ROAM secured the number one market position for mobile phone card reader solutions
  • ROAM’s secure card readers, distributed by Intuit, became available Verizon in retail stores
  • ROAM launched the ROAMpay X mobile application to improve merchants’ user experience
  • ROAM partnered with U.S. Cellular to deliver ROAMpay X to U.S. Cellular’s 6 million customers
  • Mark, the beauty and fashion boutique brand created by Avon Products, launched its first mobile sales application developed with ROAM

2012

  • ROAM received second investment from Ingenico, giving Ingenico 43% controlling interest
  • Event Farm used ROAM’s mobile platform and commerce APIs to launch mobile events app
  • ROAM launched industry’s first device agnostic mobile NFC and magnetic card reader combo called “NFC Swipe”
  • ROAM appointed Ken Paull as CEO
  • ROAM launched the G4X mobile card reader
  • TaylorMade Golf became ROAM’s first major retail customer to integrate new SDK

2013

  • ROAM became an Ingenico company
  • ROAM showcased new retail mobile POS solutions At NRF
  • ROAM launched Professional Services Group to take on complex mobile commerce integrations
  • Visa and ROAM sign agreement to bundle ROAM’s mobile point-of-sale hardware peripherals with Visa’s acceptance solutions to offer merchants globally a cost-efficient and secure way to accept card payments
